raw edges: breadbox

tel aviv natives and okay studio members yael mer and shay alkalay of raw edges have created 'breadbox'
during a collaborative workshop organized by dutch furniture company arco. both a shelf and a container, this interactive unit
draws its mechanics from the parallel hinging strips of vintage sewing boxes, the kind that arco used to make in its earlier years.
the result is a wall-mounted bread bin which is split along a diagonal plane and joined by parallel hinges concealed inside.
with deliberate efforts to keep it simple, a bread knife functions as the object's handle, opening the box with a lifting movement.
